Mr. James Tosoff – Chief Instructor Westcoast Taekwon-Do


Mr. Tosoff holds a certified 4th Degree Black Belt and is the founder of Westcoast Taekwon-Do which was inaugurated Jan 4th 1993.  Mr. Tosoff also holds Black Belts in Chinese based martial arts systems as well as Filipino martial arts.  Mr. Tosoff was a nationally ranked competitor and holds an undergraduate degree with the University of Victoria. Mr. Tosoff was a major contributor to the International Taekwon-Do Federation – Master’s Class Instructional DVD, with over 15 years of teaching experience and has networked with the finest martial arts schools in North America.
 

Miss Brie Pettigrew- Program Director/Senior Instructor Westcoast Taekwon-Do


Miss Pettigrew holds a certified 3rd Degree Black Belt and has been a martial artist for over fifteen years. Miss. Pettigrew has been an internationally ranked competitor on team Canada for 4 years and was chosen to represent Canada for the World Taekwon-Do Championships held in Australia in September of 2006. Miss. Pettigrew has travelled to different countries such as Australia and New Zealand to expand her training and knowledge in the martial arts. Miss Pettigrew has an exceptional way of dealing with the younger age children and thoroughly enjoys the interaction while helping these students learn focus and self-discipline.

 

Trevor Schultz – Junior Instructor Westcoast Taekwon-Do

Mr. Schultz received his 1st degree black belt in October 2008 and is a dedicated member of the instructor team. Mr. Schultz skillfully balances school with his martial arts training and teaching and his enthusiasm shows during his not to-be missed high-energy classes.


Miss. Shaelyn Rea- Junior Instructor Westcoast Taekwon-Do


Miss. Rea received holds a Brown Belt and is a dedicated member of the instructor team. Miss. Rea skillfully balances her school with her martial arts training and teaching. Miss. Rea’s enthusiasm shows in her high-energy warm ups!

 

Miss. Meaghan Efford-Lynch– Assistant Administrator/Student Services

Meaghan is our front desk "go to" gal.  Meaghan handles all incoming phone calls as well as answering any questions you may have about the class schedule, while bringing lots of excitement and smiles to our events. Meaghan has been trained in Pilates and Professional Flexibility and Strengthening Programs, too!

All martial arts instructors at Westcoast Taekwon-Do in Victoria, BC are trained to ensure that our martial arts classes are safe, effective and fun.

Our martial arts Victoria instructors and instructor assistants are all required to complete an intensive martial arts leadership training prior to teaching or assisting in the classroom. During these martial arts training classes, the focus is on more than just teaching martial arts skills. Instructors also learn how to work with all students, tailoring their martial arts teaching methods to fit the individual child. Emphasis is put on encouragement and positive correction.

Our martial arts instructors are committed to teaching the physical skills of martial arts while applying attitude-shaping exercises aimed at bringing out the best character and physical potential in each student. Through weekly martial arts training, instructors advance their own martial art and educational knowledge to become even more effective martial arts teachers.

The Victoria Martial Arts instructors are required to maintain their personal level of martial arts knowledge. They are expected to take class on a regular basis and test at least once per year.
